COMPUTER – SOFTWARE PROFICIENCIES
Excel:
I consider myself intermediate using Excel. It is a constant learning experience that I enjoy very much.
Most common formulas/features/utilizations used are:
Vlookup: for quick/accurate data merging between sheets and workbooks, and also for master sheet data
updates.
CountIf: conditional counting of anything based on criteria.
Pivot Tables: typical create several on a single sheet to act as a dashboard. Also great for GAP reports.
Aging: in days, weeks, months.
Filtering: by cell content, by cell color, etc…
Grouping: quick column hiding for large spreadsheets.
Conditional formatting: ID duplicate values, auto-cell highlighting based on various criteria.
Most common keyboard shortcuts I use include: ctrl-x, ctrl-c, ctrl-v, ctrl-a, ctrl-home, alt-d/f/f, alt-e/a/a.
I also create auto-populated forms and trigger fill by pick-list reference.
Data validation: to create picklists and also validate date based on specified conditions/criteria.
Relative and Absolute cell ranges: basically to lock-in ranges when things move around.
Macros: I avoid these unless I have a lot of repetitive processing with many steps.
SharePoint: I spent a lot of time working with SP for reporting (charts) publishing, and also
creation/maintenance of Team Work Sites (Wiki, Lists, etc…).
Project: I consider myself fair using this. 2013 has the best reporting features. If I needed to use this on a
daily basis, I would require some refresher training. My preference for instant Gantt chart creation and
tracking is through the use of a 3rd party app called SmartSheet.
MS Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook: I consider myself good using these.
Word: can create documents, track changes, use MailMerge, etc..
PowerPoint: can create effective presentations from scratch, set-up/use animation (not preferred for most
business presentations), integrate Excel graphs/charts, embed images, save in presentation file type, etc…
Visio: I have created detailed schematics, process flow charts, work flow diagrams with swim lanes, etc…
Outlook: I leverage “search folders” so that I don’t have to create/maintain a ton of tree folders. I also use
‘Rules’ and ‘Flags’ in effective ways.
Closing note: I love, use and create websites, collaboration tools, and anything that automates (and is
simple to use and powerful).
